【摘要】:AnimportantfactoraffectingtheperformanceofseamsofEPDMmembranesistheirabilitytoremainbondedoverthemembranersquo;expectedservicelife.Time-to-failuretestsprovideameansofcharacterizingthebehaviorofjointsunderconstantloadovertime.Note18212;Table1isbasedontheresultsofanindustrygovernmentconsortiumstudyoncreep-ruptureresistance(time-to-failure)ofEPDMadhesivejoints.4,5ReferraltoFootnotes5and6providestypicaltime-to-failuredata,developedundertheconditionsinTable1,forEPDMjointsfabricatedinthelaboratorywithnonreinforcedEPDMroofmembranematerial,butyl-basedtapes,andliquidadhesives.Itisnotedthatthepeelloadspecifiedinthispracticeis9.8N(2.2lbf).ThepeelloadunderwhichthetestsdescribedinFootnotes4and5wereconductedwas9.3N(2.1lbf).Aloadof9.8N(2.2lbf)correspondsto1kgf(2.2lbf),anddeadweightsof1-kg(2.2-lbm)massareavailablethroughlaboratoryequipmentsupplyhouses.Similarly,aloadof29.4N(6.6lbf)correspondstoadeadweightof3-kg(6.6-lbm)mass.Time-to-failuretestscomplementothermechanicaltestssuchasstrengthforcharacterizingjointsofEPDMroofmembranes,andcanbeincorporatedinspecificationsforadhesivesforjoiningEPDMroofmembranematerial.Thispractice,whichisspecifictoEPDMjoints,complementsTestMethodD5405thatprovidesgeneralrequirementsforthepreparationandcreep-rupturetestingofjointsfabricatedfromanynonbituminousorganicroofmembranematerial.Laboratoryexperienceinconductingtime-to-failuretestsofjointsEPDMroofmembraneshasshownthatspecimensarelesscreep-resistantunderpeelloadingthanundershearloading.Consequently,themajorityofthetestsstipulatedinthispracticeareperformedunderpeelloading.Thispracticedoesnotdeveloptime-to-failuredataonallenvironmentalconditionstowhichEPDMadhesiveseamscanbesubjectedinservice.1.1Thispracticecoverssamplepreparationtemperatures,testparameters,andspecimenexposureconditionsthatareapplicablewhenTestMethodD5405isusedforconductingtime-to-failure(creep-rupture)testsofadhesivejointsfabricatedfromethylene-propylene-dieneterpolymer(EPDM)roofmembranematerial.1.2ThispracticeisapplicabletojointsfabricatedinthelaboratoryfromEPDMroofmembranematerialsandadhesivesreceivedfromsuppliers,andtojointspreparedfromEPDMseamssampledfromfieldinstallations.1.3Thejointsarebondedusingpreformedtapeorliquid-basedadhesives,andEPDMroofmembranematerialsthatarenon-reinforced,fabric-orscrim-reinforced,andfabricbacked.Primersarealsousedasrecommendedforthespecificadhesive.1.4Thispracticecontainsnotesthatareexplanatoryandarenotpartofthemandatoryrequirementsofthispractice.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Theinch-poundunitsgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityoftheregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
